Residents gather at Tahrir square during a demonstration in central Baghdad September 9, 2011. Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in Iraq’s capital and other cities on Friday, calling on the government to step up reforms and provide more electricity and jobs. Inspired by Arab Spring uprisings around the region, Iraqis have been demonstrating on Fridays over a lack of basic services although protests had petered out in recent weeks. Michelle Bovée studied at James Madison University in Virginia, where she graduated with a BA in Political Science with a focus on international and comparative politics.
